Lab Report Reflection

Prompt: Write a short reflection paper in which you assess and discuss the extent to which you achieved or did not achieve the following Course Learning Outcomes.  Explain what you did, how it helped you achieve the CLO, and consider what was effective and what you might do differently for the next assignment.  Write one paragraph per CLO.

  • enhance strategies for reading, drafting, revising, editing, and self-assessment
  • develop and engage in the collaborative and social aspects of writing processes
  • formulate and articulate a stance through and in your writing
  • strengthen your source use practices (including evaluating, integrating, quoting, paraphrasing, summarizing, synthesizing, analyzing, and citing sources)

Firstly, I was able to enhance my strategies for reading while I was researching my sources to collect usable data. My drafting for the lab report started with completing the class worksheets for my methods and introduction. I achieved the editing and self assessment after participating in the peer review. The self assessment sheet was very effective for me to reflect honestly on my work and the feedback I received. For the next assignments I will continue to be honest and reflect on my work.

Secondly, I was partially able to develop and engage in peer review with my group member. I went based off the sheet from the textbook and gave my group member constructive criticism to the best of my ability. I believe I could have done a better job at participating by working with more than just one person. I will continue to develop my peer review strategies throughout the next assignments.

Formulating a stance was not difficult for my lab report. Even though a lab report is to be persuasive, it is not an argumentative essay. My stance was formulated in the reasoning behind conducting my experiment. I articulated my stance into answering my hypothesis along with using my sources to either prove or disprove my stance. I believe I will be able to articulate my stance better with more supporting evidence to help persuade my readers.

Finally, regarding citing my sources, it was slightly harder for me to cite my sources because it was my first time using the APA format. During my first semester I mainly used MLA format so I was used to citing in that form. Even though it was similar, I had to make sure I cited my evidence and sources properly, so i dont fully believe I achieved this learning objective. I will continue to learn the APA format as we continue to complete assignments for this class. Overall, the main thing I would do differently for this lab report is use my time wisely, find more credible sources and learn more about the topic I am completing an experiment on.
